Discussion List Policies

Unsubscribing

  • Basically to unsubscribe, you login to your account and, under the 'User Menu'', use the 'My Email list subscriptions' menu to enable or disable the subscriptions you want to control.
  • Unsubscribing from a HT list, when you don't have a user login

  • Use 'forgot my password' link on  our member's area
  • If that doesn't get you a password you can use, it means you are on the list with a different email address then you are reading the email with, it might mean you have used an old address that is forwarded to a new address.

  • When you are getting email to an address different from the one you are reading the emailings, you have to determine what address that is - we can not. If you use the 'view source' or 'show headers' in your email reader you might be able to see the original email that it was sent to.  Look for headers like 'Delivered-To:' or on the 'Received:' headers (there are usually more than one of those). Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it what you find.

  • If that doesn't tell you, then email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with any email addresses you might have used as well as your Full name, any nick names and company name and address(s) for the last few years and the webmaster will search for it, also email the whole set of email headers -- this helps track the routing from our emailing system.
  • Remember HT is a volunteer organization, so please do all you can before asking for help, and provide all useful information if you do need to ask for help

Posting Guidelines for Employment Ads

Posting Guidelines for Employment Ads on the Discussion List

Local employers are welcome to post employment ads on the Hidden-Tech Email Discussion List, which has more than 600 subscribers. Ads from outside area employers will be reviewed by the Hidden-Tech Board with the criteria that the goal of Hidden-Tech is to promote growth in the local region.

Listings from employment firms are generally not allowed, if you have some really special offer that will help the local region, post and see if it is allowed (however note that listmaster and board decisions are final.)

All job posts must be in standard text format in the body of an email message to the list (no attachments of any kind are allowed). Providing links to further information is perfectly fine. PLEASE do not cut/paste HTML from MS/Word, it is massive.

The ads should be posted with an email address for job seekers to send their resumes directly, and we recommend a US mailing address also.

Use a Subject line starting with JOB: and the title of the job.  Do not include any comments to the webmaster about reposting -- you are sending the listing directly to the list.

The reasons for not allowing attachments are:

  1. Security - many virus checkers block attachements
  2. Size - HT readers include many from the hilltowns in Western Mass who still do not have high speed cable - more at WiredWest.net

Post to the discussion list at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

For Sale listings are not allowed unless for unique items of special interest to list members. Please use craig's list first.

5) Solicitations, esp for donations, are not allowed. Requests for project help for non-profits (503c not required) may be allowed. **
6) Postings of a blatantly political or religious topic will not be permitted.
7) Always: The decisions of list master are final even if seeming to some arbitrary and inconsistant.  Be aware long time list members maybe allowed more leeway in postings then others.

** If in doubt, post to list address and moderator will determine if acceptable -- it will either be allowed on the list or you will get a reject message, with the reason why.

Please post sparse, clean messages to the list (example: "snip" or delete the previous discussion thread in the body of your email before posting to the list - keep your listing posting new and clean).
